IC Systems is a third-party debt collection agency that pursues outstanding debts on behalf of its clients. IC Systems has a poor reputation online, and is known for calling people with inaccurate debt reports. If you are one of many people who is tired of being contacted by IC Systems, you can put a stop to it. You might even be able to get your IC Systems debt removed from your credit report.

Is IC Systems a Legitimate Company?

IC Systems is a legitimate debt collection agency, and not a scam. IC Systems is a long-standing company, having been founded in 1938. Today, they are headquartered in Minneapolis, Minnesota. IC Systems can be reached by the following contact information:

  • Website: https://www.icsystem.com/
  • Address: 444 Highway 96 E, St. Paul, MN, 55127.

                          P.O. Box 64378

  • Phone Number (Medical): 866-628-7811
  • Phone Number (Other): 800-279-7244

Just because IC Systems is a legitimate company, it does not mean that all of their debt reports are accurate. IC Systems does not have a good reputation when it comes to responding to customer complaints. IC Systems has just a 1 out of 5-star customer rating according to the Better Business Bureau. Per the BBB, IC Systems has received over 1300 complaints in the last three years. They have resolved only 556 in the last 12 months. However, the BBB also gives IC Systems an A+ rating

The most frequent complaints found in customer reviews are about false or inaccurate debt collections. Customers consistently complain that the company calls them or sends letters regarding debts that they are not actually responsible for. Many customers have also expressed frustration with IC Systems’ lack of communication and slow response times for complaints.

Who Does IC Systems Collect For?

IC Systems collects debts on behalf of its clients. In most cases, IC Systems purchases the debt from the original creditor.

IC Systems works with businesses in a very broad range of industries. Like many debt collection agencies, IC Systems does not publicly identify many of their clients. However, IC Systems is noted for working with a lot of small businesses and healthcare providers.

Why is IC Systems Calling Me?

If you are receiving phone calls from IC Systems, it means their records indicate that you have an outstanding debt. In some cases, these records are accurate. However, in plenty of other cases, these claims are incorrect. There are several possible explanations for how IC Systems could mistakenly send an inaccurate debt collection notice. These include:

  • Mistaken or incorrect identity
  • Debt collection on a debt you have already paid
  • Debts falsely reported as overdue
  • Debts owed on accounts opened as a result of identity theft

In most cases, it is advised that you work with a credit repair company when contacted by IC Systems. Even if you do owe money on an open account, a credit repair agency can minimize the impact on your credit report.

Can I Be Sued By IC Systems?

It is highly unlikely that IC Systems would sue you over an overdue or outstanding debt. In nearly all cases, debts are resolved one way or another long before lawsuits become a consideration. As long as you are proactive in contesting or settling your account with IC Systems, this should not be a concern.

Why Shouldn’t I Just Pay My Debt With IC Systems Immediately?

If you want to get your debt paid off as quickly as possible, you can simply pay IC Systems. Of course, you should only do this if IC Systems’ collection attempt is legitimate.

However, paying off your debt is not a fix-all solution. When you pay off a collection from a debt collector, it can remain on your credit report for seven years. This is because a paid debt collection simply changes from “unpaid” status to “paid” status on your credit report. To erase it completely from your report, you will need to dispute the claim or reach a settlement. This process can be difficult, so it is often advised that you work with a credit repair expert.

What Rights Do I Have if IC Systems is Contacting Me?

If IC Systems contacts you about a false or inaccurate account claim, you have a right to dispute it. In addition, you also have a right to fair treatment by IC Systems or any other debt collection agency.

All debt collectors must follow both the FCRA (Fair Credit Reporting Act) and the FDCPA (Fair Debt Collection Practices Act). This means that IC Systems, and other debt collectors, may not engage in any of the following behaviors:

  • Threatening of abusive language
  • Threats of violence or physical harm
  • Repeated phone calls or other forms of communication at inconvenient times
  • Providing false or misleading information
  • Threatening arrest
  • Use of any willfully deceptive practices

If you feel as though you have suffered from harassment from IC Systems’ debt collectors, you can report them. The FTC (Federal Trade Commission) and CFPB (Consumer Financial Protection Bureau) both receive complaints about hostile debt collectors.

Be sure to document all instances of harassment and violation of the FDCPA when interacting with debt collection agencies.

What Are My Options to Remove IC Systems from My Credit Report?

Having an outstanding debt on your credit report can damage your credit score. This is unfortunately true even if the debt is falsely attributed to you. Fortunately, there are several things you can do to contest false claims and fix your credit score. Even if you do have an outstanding debt, knowing how to respond can save you money and help your credit score.

The first thing you should do when contesting a debt collection from IC Systems is to request debt validation. If IC Systems is unable to validate your debt, then their report should be removed. This means they should stop calling you, and the inaccurate debt report will not affect your credit score.

If IC Systems does validate the debt, you can either continue to contest it, or reach a settlement. At this point, you might also request a copy of your credit report from all three major credit bureaus (Equifax, Experian, and TransUnion). This gives you an opportunity to review each report for potential errors. If you spot any credit report errors, you can dispute them with the credit bureau in question. This may be able to resolve your complaint against IC Systems as well.

Depending on the timing of your contact with IC Systems, you may also be able to wait for the statute of limitations to expire. This can vary from state to state, but is usually between 6 and 10 years.

If you cannot contest your debt with IC Systems, you can attempt to reach a settlement. Before doing this, it is always recommended that you hire a credit repair agency. Working with an expert can help save your credit score and get you the best possible resolution.
